Nter Talent is seeking an experienced Transport Team Manager to lead the day-to-day operation in Coventry. You will manage drivers and transport coordinators, ensuring deliveries are safe, compliant and on time while controlling costs and service quality.

The role requires hands-on leadership of HGV operations, driver compliance, and people management in a fast-paced environment, with 4-on/4-off shifts and alternating days and nights.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in Transport Management or Operations.
• Strong knowledge of HGV fleets, compliance and drivers' hours.
• Proven ability to manage drivers and transport teams.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day transport operation, including drivers, coordinators, vehicles and schedules.
• Oversee a fleet of HGVs ensuring safe, efficient operation.
• Manage multi-drop delivery operations and transport planning.
• Ensure compliance with Operator Licence, Drivers' Hours, WTR and tachograph rules.
• Monitor transport performance, KPIs and operational costs.
• Oversee end-to-end delivery of temperature-controlled products.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and address issues with drivers.
• Handle HR processes including absence, discipline and grievances.
• Investigate incidents and maintain health and safety standards.
• Collaborate with other departments to maintain service levels.
• Identify efficiency improvements and resource utilisation.
• Support wider management team and drive overall operation success.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Transport Team Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of a busy transport operation based in Coventry.

You will lead a team of drivers and transport coordinators, ensuring deliveries are completed safely, efficiently and on time while maintaining high standards of compliance, service and cost control.

This is a hands‑on transport management role suited to someone who understands HGV operations, knows their way around driver compliance and is confident managing people in a fast‑paced environment.

What you'll be doing

• Managing the day-to-day transport operation, including drivers, coordinators, vehicles and schedules
• Overseeing a fleet of HGVs and ensuring vehicles are operated safely and efficiently
• Managing multi-drop delivery operations and transport planning
• Ensuring full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, Drivers' Hours, Working Time Regulations and tachograph legislation
• Monitoring transport performance, KPIs and operational costs
• Managing the end-to-end delivery of temperature-controlled products, including fresh, ambient and frozen goods
• Conducting regular performance reviews and addressing performance or behavioural issues with drivers
• Managing HR processes including absence, disciplinary and grievance matters
• Investigating vehicle accidents, incidents and operational issues
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety across the transport operation
• Working closely with other departments to resolve issues and maintain service levels
• Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, performance and resource utilisation
• Supporting the wider management team and contributing to the overall success of the operation

What we're looking for

• Significant experience in a Transport Management or Transport Operations Management position
• Strong HGV/fleet management knowledge
• Experience managing drivers and operational teams
• Experience within multi-drop distribution and transport planning
• A good understanding of Operator Licence compliance, Drivers' Hours, Working Time Regulations and tachographs
• Ideally, experience within temperature-controlled or food distribution
• Strong knowledge of transport KPIs, reporting and performance management
• Experience using Transport Management Systems and Microsoft Office
• Excellent communication and people‑management skills
• Confidence handling difficult conversations and managing challenging situations
• A strong focus on health, safety and compliance
• The ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure
• A hands‑on, team‑focused approach
