Position Summary: Plan and manage a large team of drivers, shunters, and clerks to achieve daily workload targets, productivity, and service levels.

Ensure full compliance with legislation related to health & safety, transport, employment law, and hygiene standards.

Oversee daily operations during a specific shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective delivery of goods by managing drivers, schedules, vehicle performance, and regulatory compliance while prioritizing customer service and operational targets.

Key Responsibilities:

• Promote a safety culture, ensure compliance with safety procedures, and investigate incidents.
• Lead and supervise drivers during their shift, conduct performance reviews, coaching, and resolve issues.
• Optimize routes, schedule deliveries, and ensure timely departures to meet deadlines.
• Monitor driver hours, vehicle maintenance, and adherence to transport regulations (e.g., Driver Working Time Directives).
• Track KPIs such as delivery times, vehicle utilization, and fuel consumption to identify improvements.
• Manage labor and control costs to meet productivity and budget targets.
• Handle holiday requests and ensure driver resources align with customer volume needs.
• Respond to unexpected issues like traffic delays, breakdowns, or customer complaints, adjusting plans to maintain service levels.
• Maintain clear communication with drivers, clerks, customers, and other departments.
• Prepare shift reports on operational performance, critical issues, and solutions.
