Job summary

Derbyshire County Council is seeking a Transport Planner to provide transport development management advice and to manage a caseload of minor to mid-scale sites, supporting more complex sites. You will contribute to pre-application input, outline planning and appeals as required.

Engagement in negotiations for highway mitigation under Section 106, plus identifying other funding sources, is essential. You will collaborate with statutory and private bodies and communities to shape the county's

Qualifications

  • Degree, diploma or equivalent in a transport planning or engineering related field.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Highways & Transportation (CIHT).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience of interpreting and writing technical and non-technical reports.
  • Experience negotiating with developers or Local Planning Authorities.
  • Experience of transport analysis or assessment work.
  • Knowledge of the planning process as it relates to highways and transport.
  • Ability to work to tight timescales and targets.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Transport Planner within the Transport Development Management Team. Take on a key role and play a vital role in shaping the future of the county's highway infrastructure.

About The Role

To provide transport development management advice to ensure effective transport assessment and input throughout the development process, including managing a case load of predominantly minor and mid-scale sites, and supporting the Senior Transport Planner on more complex sites.

To assist with the provision of effective transport input on pre-application enquiries, outline planning applications, reserved matters applications and planning appeals as necessary.

Engaging in effective negotiation to secure highways and transportation mitigation for development proposals including through Section 106 discussions and identifying other funding sources as appropriate.

To support effective partnerships and working relationships with statutory, voluntary, private agencies and communities.

About You

To apply for this post, you must have:

  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in a transport planning or engineering related field, And Membership of Chartered Institute of Highways & Transportation (CIHT)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience of interpreting and writing technical and non-technical reports.
  • Effective negotiation with internal and external organisations, such as developers or Local Planning Authorities.
  • Experience of conducting packages of transport analysis or assessment work.
  • Knowledge of the planning process as it relates to highways and transportation.
  • Be able to work to tight timescales and to agreed targets.
