Job description
Overview

You’ll join a friendly, forward-thinking team at an exciting time as we shape a bold new vision for transport in Dorset. You’ll help drive our ambitions to cut carbon emissions from transport to net zero by 2050 and support sustainable development across the county.

Based in beautiful rural Dorset, close to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, you’ll benefit from Dorset Council’s wide range of training and support, along with our hybrid working approach that offers a flexible mix of home and office working.

What You Will Be Doing

You’ll work in our Transport Planning strategic and policy sub-team, playing a key role in reviewing planning applications and pre-planning enquiries to secure the infrastructure and contributions needed to meet our sustainable transport aims. As a main point of contact, you’ll support the Transport Development Management team, collaborate with the Planning Team and other partners, and provide clear policy advice on major developments.

You’ll also help deliver transport studies, prepare plans and write bids to secure funding for sustainable transport schemes. This involves working closely with both internal and external partners to deliver projects on time and to budget.

About You
  • you might be a recent graduate or have experience in transport looking to develop your career
  • you’ll have relevant professional experience or knowledge of transport planning and legislation, with skills in data analysis and report writing
  • you’ll be passionate about creating a safe, accessible and sustainable transport system
  • you can communicate effectively with different audiences, work well with internal teams and external partners, and manage deadlines on high-profile projects
  • you’ll be IT confident, produce strong written reports and be willing to attend meetings or occasionally work outside normal hours
  • you’ll also be comfortable preparing material for planning appeals or appearing at committees, hearings or inquiries, with training and support available if needed
