Owens Group is seeking to recruit a Transport Planner.
Shifts available:
- 4 on 4 off Days - 6am to 6pm
Salary: £30,000.00
The Transport Planner will be responsible for the timely planning of routes and scheduling deliveries to ensure first-class customer service in a cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Key Accountabilities
- Perform tasks largely unsupervised, adhering to cost and quality standards.
- Plan ahead for tasks and resources; liaise with internal and external customers to resolve issues.
- Collect, analyze, and distribute information/data.
- Provide professional advice internally and externally.
- Develop relationships with external customers.
- Ensure levels of support service are maintained.
- Prioritize and coordinate workloads.
- Complete tasks on time and to quality standards.
- Aim for no customer complaints and work within budgets.
- Establish effective working partnerships with customers and colleagues.
- Deliver timely advice and demonstrate competence and respect.
- Practice safe working procedures.
Specific Key Accountabilities
- Coordinate with customers, suppliers, drivers, and traffic desks to plan routes and schedule deliveries for smooth operations.
- Prioritize workload, conduct driver briefings and de-briefings.
- Communicate with other depots within the company.
- Monitor driver communication and compliance.
- Organize schedules, journeys, and loads efficiently.
- Proactively reduce late deliveries and missed time slots.
- Work flexibly and make quick decisions.
- Maintain excellent communication skills across all levels.
- Use computer systems such as Stirling and Excel proficiently.
- Understand current transport regulations.
- Possess good geographical knowledge.
- Arrange driver agency staffing as needed.
- Monitor compliance and work with drivers and compliance teams to eliminate infringements.
- Ensure all drivers are aware of SAFED and contribute to safety achievements.
- Take responsibility for employee health and safety.
- Ensure vehicle and trailer availability for compliance and inspections.
- Provide general support to management as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in a similar role.
- CPC qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Relevant job-specific qualifications preferred.
- Experience in Traffic Management and VOSA Compliance.
- Strong problem-solving and logical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently, managing time and priorities under tight deadlines.
Skills
- Proficiency in computer skills, especially Stirling (desirable) and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills for interaction at all levels.
- Good geographical knowledge.
- Team-oriented with a flexible, 'Can Do' attitude.
