Owens Group is a fast-developing, multisite organisation with a large and diverse customer base, making this an exciting opportunity.

As a result, Owens Group is looking to recruit a Transport Planner.

Shifts available:

4 on 4 off Days - 6am to 6pm

To take responsibility for the timely traffic planning of routes and scheduling delivery times to ensure that the customer receives a first-class service in a cost-effective way.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry out tasks largely unsupervised to cost and quality standards
  • Plan ahead - tasks and resources. Liaise with internal/external customers to resolve problems.
  • Collect, analyse and distribute information/data.
  • Provide professional/specialist advice both internally and externally.
  • Develop relationships with external customers.
  • Specify and ensure levels of support service are in place.
  • Prioritise and co-ordinate workloads.
  • Complete tasks to time and quality standards, aiming for no customer complaints and working within budgets.
  • Build successful working partnerships with customers, internal and external.
  • Deliver timely and accurate advice, earning respect for your competence.
  • Practise safe working procedures.

Specific Key Accountabilities

  • Work with customers, suppliers, drivers, and other traffic desks to plan routes and schedule deliveries for smooth operations.
  • Prioritise workload, plan routes, and conduct driver briefings and de-briefings.
  • Communicate with other depots within the company.
  • Monitor driver communication and compliance.
  • Organise schedules, journeys, and loads with strong organisational skills.
  • Proactively reduce late deliveries and missed slots.
  • Work flexibly and make quick decisions.
  • Maintain excellent communication skills to interact at all levels.
  • Maintain and operate the Stirling computerised system and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Understand current transport regulations and possess good geographical knowledge.
  • Book driver agency staff as needed.
  • Monitor compliance, work with drivers and compliance teams to eliminate infringements.
  • Ensure drivers are aware of SAFED and contribute to safety achievements.
  • Take responsibility for employee health and safety.
  • Ensure vehicles and trailers are available timely to meet compliance and inspection requirements.
  • Provide general support to management as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experience at a similar level.
  • CPC holder desirable (National), but not essential.
  • Job-specific qualifications preferred.
  • Experience in Traffic Management and dealing with VOSA compliance.
  • Strong problem-solving and logical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, managing time and prioritising to meet deadlines.
Skills:
  • Computer literacy, including Stirling (desirable) and Excel.
  • Good communication skills for interaction at all levels.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge.
  • Team player with a flexible 'Can Do' attitude.
