A leading logistics company in Portsmouth is seeking a Transport Planner to coordinate fleet operations and ensure timely delivery across the UK. The ideal candidate will have experience in transport planning, strong knowledge of legislation, and excellent IT skills including MS Excel. This full-time, permanent role includes an on-call allowance of £220 per week.

Qualifications

  • Experience within a port or maritime environment would be advantageous.

Transport Planner
Location: Portsmouth
Salary: GBP34,000 GBP38,250 DOE + On-Call Allowance
Hours: Mon Fri 08 00 (40 hours per week) + rotational on-call (evenings & weekends)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

TLP are currently recruiting a Transport Planner to join a dynamic and fast-paced transport team. This is a key role responsible for the day-to-day planning and coordination of fleet operations, ensuring the timely and compliant delivery of goods across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily operational planning of vehicles, drivers, and jobs.
  • Monitor and manage driver hours, rest periods, and ensure full legal compliance.
  • Act as the main point of contact for drivers, ensuring clear communication and support.
  • Liaise with internal departments, customers, and external suppliers to ensure smooth logistics operations.
  • Ensure vehicle compliance and timely defect rectification.
  • Respond to delivery issues or delays and notify customers promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, costs, and fleet data.
  • Provide flexible support during weekends and out-of-hours periods as part of a rotational on-call schedule.
  • Occasionally drive in line with business needs (if appropriately licensed).

Working Hours & On-Call Details:

  • Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 08 00.
  • Participation in an on-call rota: 1 week in every 4.
  • On-call allowance: GBP220 per on-call week.
  • During your on-call week, you will also be required to work the Saturday (8 hours) and Sunday (8 hours), which are paid at time and one third.

What We re Looking For:

Experience:

  • Proven background in transport or logistics planning, ideally with temperature or time-sensitive goods.
  • Experience within a port or maritime environment would be advantageous.

  • Strong knowledge of transport and driver legislation.
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong commercial awareness and decision-making ability.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Good people management and team coordination abilities.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in National Road Haulage Operations.
  • C+E (Class 1) Driving Licence (advantageous, not essential).
