Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join our client’s Strategic Transport Policy Team based in Oxford. This exciting role focuses on the delivery of Movement and Place Strategies that shape communities and improve connectivity across Oxfordshire. The successful candidate will contribute to key transport initiatives and strategic infrastructure projects, working across disciplines to ensure the policies support inclusive and sustainable travel.

Key Responsibilities

Technical/Knowledge Leadership

  • Provide specialist technical input on Movement and Place Strategies and broader transport policy.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging local and transport planning legislation, guidance, and trends.
  • Promote continuous improvement and upskilling across the team.
  • Review and constructively critique colleagues’ technical outputs.
  • Engage with teams across the clients company.
  • Support the use of digital tools including AutoCAD, GIS, and other transport planning software.

Professional & Technical Delivery

  • Monitor and report on the progress and impact of Movement and Place Strategy projects.
  • Contribute to Place Shaping efforts, including Active Travel, Mobility Hubs, Public Transport and public realm enhancement.
  • Assist in defining strategic transport investment priorities and project approvals.
  • Develop briefs and manage external consultants working on related projects.
  • Lead and support public and stakeholder consultations, including integrated planning partnerships.
  • Coordinate correspondence and act as the central liaison point for Movement and Place Strategy queries.
  • Contribute to funding bids and support the preparation of business cases for transport initiatives.

Key Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in transport planning, ideally in a local government context.
  • Strong knowledge of policy development, stakeholder engagement, and strategy implementation.
  • Proficiency or ability to learn AutoCAD, GIS, and related software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven track record in managing multiple stakeholders and navigating political environments.
