They have an expanding network of UK sites with employees across the country and are now looking for an experienced Transport Planner to join their team.

Our client is looking for a full-time, permanent Transport Planner for their Canvey site. Reporting to the Transport Planner Team Leader, this role is critical to the success of the transport department.

The purpose of the role is to manage daily vehicle collections based on insurance company instructions through a combination of company-owned trucks and sub-contractors. The planner will aim to maximize collection capacity by effectively utilizing the fleet of transporters and optimizing routes where applicable.

What will this role involve?

  2. Understanding the importance of this role's close association with the Driver bonus scheme.
  3. Familiarity with all Driver processes, procedures, and legislative requirements, including the working time directive.
  4. Thorough communication with HBC Drivers regarding collections, returns, and deliveries.
  5. Managing sub-contractor selection and activity, including timely notifications of required collections and deliveries, ensuring collections are carried out within the terms of the Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  6. Understanding all aspects of the planning department, including specialist and small lorry collection processes, to provide cover as needed.
  7. Carrying out other transport-specific duties as directed by the Transport Planner Team Leader.
  8. Understanding the process of routing work through the Drivers’ hand-held devices.

Skills Required

Candidates should have experience working in a fast-paced transport office, understanding the vehicle collection process from instruction to delivery, and working within KPIs.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of road transport and UK geography, understanding of driving issues (including Tacho hours), good communication skills, self-motivation, organization, resilience, flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to use their initiative.

Willingness to review and suggest improvements to Driver and vehicle routing applications is also desirable.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, between 8:00 am and 5:30 pm, with a one-hour lunch break. The specific start and finish times will be determined by the reporting manager and aligned with business needs.

A comprehensive induction and training program on the role will be provided.
