Overview

Job Title: Transport Planner

Location: Luton

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: GBP28-32k

Shift: 4 on 4 off (7am-7pm)

The Role

As a Transport Planner, you’ll play a vital role in planning and coordinating vehicle, trailer, and driver schedules to deliver exceptional service while maximising efficiency and controlling costs. Working closely with the Transport Shift Manager, you will help ensure the operation runs safely, smoothly, and in full compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan daily and weekly transport schedules for vehicles, trailers, and drivers across multiple UK sites.
  • Ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of customer requirements while maximising fleet utilisation.
  • Monitor live operations and proactively resolve any issues such as delays, breakdowns, or driver shortages.
  • Maintain compliance with EU tachograph legislation, the Working Time Directive, and other relevant regulations.
  • Input accurate, timely data into transport management systems.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to provide clear updates.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on service excellence and cost reduction.
  • Provide operational cover and support to the wider transport team as required.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in a transport planning or operations role, ideally across multi-site operations.
  • A strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, drivers hours, and tachograph regulations.
  • Proficient IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to build relationships with drivers, colleagues, and customers.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to support out-of-hours operations when required.
