We are currently looking for a Transport Planner to join our fantastic team at Tarmac Birtley in Birtley, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham. As well as Birtley and Chester-le-Street, this role is commutable from Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Consett, Durham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Darlington, South Shields, Wallsend, Longbenton and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Distribution Supervisor the role of Transport Planner will work with multidisciplinary teams with both internal and external stakeholders including customers, customer service, planning and haulage drivers. The role will also be responsible for:

  • Handling of inbound and outbound calls
  • Process customer's orders
  • Raise any safety concerns immediately
  • Proactively chase and inform of changes
  • Complaint handling
  • Effective communication with key stakeholders
  • Accurate recording of data
  • Uphold company values
  • Effective management of assets and materials
  • Sourcing and management of external assets
  • Effective cost management

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Transport Planner will already have proven experience working in a hectic Planning role but we welcome applications from those who enjoy working in a busy, challenging customer focussed environment dealing with multiple stakeholders.

Suitable candidates for the role of Transport Planner will also have:

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi task and manage expectations successfully
  • Proven customer service and telephone skills
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels
  • Proven teamwork capability
  • Speed and efficiency in making decisions
  • Commercial awareness
  • IT literacy
  • Good geographical knowledge of the North East region (preferred)
  • Knowledge of transport law (preferred but not essential)
