Job description

We currently have an opportunity for a Transport Planner to join our busy Transport Planning team, based in Cambridge, on a permanent basis. The role would suit a transport planner with a broad understanding of all elements of the profession, ideally with a focus on transport planning for development planning projects as well as the ability to work on public sector schemes.

Our Cambridge office is located right in the vibrant heart of the city. Just a short walk from the historic University of Cambridge and the bustling city centre, our office offers excellent access to the scenic River Cam and the picturesque parks and Botanic Gardens that Cambridge is renowned for. With great direct connections to London, our Cambridge location is perfectly situated for convenient travel and collaboration with colleagues and clients alike.

We are fortunate to work with excellent clients on some of the region’s most exciting projects. The team in Cambridge have been involved in various high-profile projects in recent years including North West Cambridge Development now known as Eddington, Addenbrooke’s Hospital Biomedical Campus, Waterbeach Barracks and Airfield, Tendring and Colchester Borders Garden Community, and Alconbury Weald.

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects from larger and more complex strategic land development proposals through to smaller sites, in addition to strategic infrastructure delivery and public sector commissions. This role will enable you to develop your transport planning skills and abilities alongside our broader multi-disciplinary offering.
On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for supporting technical output of transportation projects. You will be involved in the production of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, a variety of transport studies and associated technical analysis work, plus supporting the wider regional team on our range of projects. You will liaise with clients, design teams, local authorities and the general public and will play an important role in the mentoring and development of junior members of the team.
This role will provide you with significant opportunity for career progression and personal development, with support from colleagues across Stantec through mentoring and training to develop your skills and experience to obtain professional qualifications.

ABOUT YOU

You will be degree qualified ideally in transportation, geography, engineering or a related field.
You will have experience and understanding of the planning system and experience with Transport Assessments, Travel Planning, Junction modelling / analysis and experience of relevant software packages. Strong numerical skills are important and you will have experience with budget and quality management at project level. You should ideally be working towards professional qualification, for example Chartered Transport Planning Professional.
