Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Operator to join our friendly team in Teynham on a full-time permanent basis!

As a Transport Operator, you will be responsible for effectively managing vehicle utilisation and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise instructions, ensuring all service levels are met within the constraints of drivers’ hours and Health & Safety regulations.

Working Hours: Wednesday-Saturday, 7pm-7am.

Salary: £31,500 per annum.

Key Duties of a Transport Operator:
  • Plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors, and agencies, considering all company sites.
  • Ensure drivers work within a safe environment and follow driver hours regulations.
  • Liaise with the retail department to optimise fleet/driver utilisation, identifying and resolving delivery issues.
  • Assist in controlling equipment to meet and record customer requirements.
  • Investigate accidents or driver performance issues.
  • Work with compliance to ensure trucks are legal and information is downloaded promptly.
  • Support drivers during callouts and breakdowns.
  • Inform customers of late or delayed deliveries via appropriate contact methods (automated systems, email, phone).
  • Build and match ASN’s to loads to ensure compliance.
  • Complete accident, incident, and near-miss reports.
  • Track drivers using ISOTRAK / Microlise systems.
Qualifications
  • CPC National/International qualification desirable.
  • Experience in a distribution/transport environment.
  • Ability to manage workload in a pressurised environment.
  • Understanding of vehicle planning within a transport environment or similar.
  • Good geographical knowledge.
  • Basic understanding of driver’s hours regulations and Tachograph law.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Initiative and ability to work unsupervised.
