Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Operator to join our friendly team in Teynham on a full-time, permanent basis!

As the Transport Operator, you will be responsible for effectively managing vehicle utilisation and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise instructions, ensuring all service levels are met within the constraints of drivers' hours and Health & Safety regulations.

Working Hours: Wednesday-Saturday, 7pm-7am.

Salary: £31,500 per annum.

Key Duties of a Transport Operator
  1. Plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors, and agencies, considering all company sites.
  2. Ensure all drivers work within a safe environment and adhere to driver hours regulations.
  3. Liaise with the retail department to optimise fleet and driver utilisation, resolving issues affecting timely delivery.
  4. Assist in controlling equipment to meet and record customer requirements.
  5. Investigate accidents or driver performance issues.
  6. Work with compliance to ensure trucks are legal, and information is downloaded promptly.
  7. Support drivers with callouts and breakdowns.
  8. Inform customers of late or delayed deliveries via relevant contact methods (automated electronic, email, telephone).
  9. Build and match ASNS to loads, ensuring compliance.
  10. Complete accident, incident, and near-miss paperwork.
  11. Track drivers using ISOTRAK / Microlise systems.
Qualifications
  • CPC National/International qualification (desirable).
  • Experience in a distribution or transport environment.
  • Ability to manage workload under pressure.
  • Understanding of vehicle planning within a transport setting or similar.
  • Good geographical knowledge.
  • Basic knowledge of drivers' hours regulations and Tachograph law.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently.
