Job description
Transport Operations Manager

Shape the future of transport with Williams Haulage.

We’re offering an exciting career opportunity for a highly motivated leader to take ownership of our transport operations and drive performance, safety, and efficiency. If you’re commercially astute, thrive on solving challenges, and know how to inspire a team, this could be your ideal next career move.

The Opportunity

As Transport Operations Manager, you’ll lead our transport function to ensure our drivers, vehicles, and depots operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with UK and EU legislation.

Based at the Sandycroft depot (with regular travel to our Deeside and Corwen depots), you’ll report directly to the Managing Director and take responsibility for:

  • Acting as the named Transport Manager on our Operator Licence.
  • Leading and developing a team of c.37 Drivers and a Logistics Coordinator, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Overseeing fleet management, vehicle compliance, supplier relationships, and budgets.
  • Partnering with planners to optimise routes, costs, and fleet utilisation, and to swiftly resolve issues.
  • Supporting the finance operations by ensuring accurate and timely submission of driver paperwork, promptly resolving any issues as they arise.
  • Driving high standards across health and safety, compliance, and operational performance.
  • Recruiting, onboarding, training and conducting performance reviews.

This is a hands-on leadership role with plenty of variety, from managing compliance audits to supporting drivers on the ground. You’ll be the approachable go-to person for ensuring our transport operations remain safe, efficient, and future-focused.

About You

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • Proven experience managing UK transport operations.
  • Transport Manager CPC in Road Haulage (International).
  • In-depth regulatory knowledge, including Operator Licence undertakings, driver hours, WTD, and health and safety legislation. With drive to uphold the highest safety and audit standards.
  • A motivational leadership style that inspires and builds accountability.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with a proactive, “can-do” approach.
  • Commercial awareness with experience controlling costs and budgets.
  • Strong IT literacy, with proficiency using transport compliance/management systems (e.g. Tachomaster, Mandata, or similar).

While not essential as training can be provided, candidates with a valid IOSH Managing Safely certificate is preferred.

What’s in it for you
  • Be part of a friendly, inclusive, supportive, and people-first culture.
  • The chance to make a real impact in a growing, forward-thinking business.
  • Company-funded training and professional development (CPC refresher, H&S courses etc.).
  • Salary in the region of £40,000 to £45,000, with the starting level based on experience.
  • Working Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Due to our 24/7 operation and the nature of this role, flexibility is required to be ‘on call’ remotely, outside of usual working hours.
Ready to Take the Wheel?

If you’re passionate about logistics, a strong communicator, eager to lead a high-performing team, and want to join a company that values its people as much as its customers, we’d love to hear from you.
