Job summary

Greggs seeks an experienced Transport Operations Manager for the new KNDC in Kettering to lead a multi-site transport operation. You will drive strategy, oversee planning, and manage a team of managers, supervisors and drivers to deliver safe, compliant and high-performing transport services.

You will champion continuous improvement, monitor KPIs, and ensure health and safety and food-safety standards are met while aligning with Greggs' growth and community commitments.

Qualifications

• Experience leading large-scale transport, logistics or distribution operations.
• Strong knowledge of transport compliance, Health & Safety and food safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of transport managers, supervisors and drivers.
• Deliver operational and strategic transport objectives in line with plans and budgets.
• Oversee transport planning, resource deployment and problem solving.
• Ensure fleet maintenance, servicing and compliance requirements are met.
• Manage 24/7 transport operations including rota planning and optimization.
• Drive a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
• Monitor KPIs to support performance and safety.
• Lead recruitment, coaching and succession planning.

Vacancy Information

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Operations Manager to join our new state-of-the-art Kettering National Distribution Centre (KNDC). This role will play a critical part in ensuring outstanding service to our shops and Regional Distribution Centres while supporting Greggs' continued growth and supply chain transformation.

As Transport Operations Manager, you will lead a team of transport shift managers and supervisors and drivers to deliver a safe, compliant and high-performing transport operation. You will be responsible for implementing the transport strategy, delivering operational plans, and driving continuous improvement while maintaining the highest standards of safety, service and colleague engagement.

What you'll do

• Lead and develop a team of transport managers, supervisors and drivers.


• Deliver operational and strategic transport objectives in line with business plans and budgets.


• Take responsibility for transport planning, resource deployment and operational problem solving.


• Ensure fleet maintenance, servicing and transport compliance requirements are fully met.


• Manage 24/7 transport operations, including rota planning and resource optimisation.


• Drive a culture of excellence, continuous improvement and colleague engagement.


• Develop, monitor and improve key performance indicators to support operational performance.


• Ensure compliance with all transport legislation, Health & Safety, food safety and company policies.


• Recruit, coach, develop and support colleagues to achieve their full potential.


• Lead performance management, PDRs, succession planning and talent development activities.


• Manage investigations, disciplinary and grievance processes where required.


• Promote a strong safety and food safety culture across the operation.


• Work cross-functionally with operational, national transport team and support teams to achieve commercial objectives


• Lead and deliver continuous improvement initiatives and operational projects.

About you

We're looking for a passionate and experienced operational leader with a proven track record in transport, logistics or distribution management.

You'll have:

• Experience leading large-scale transport, logistics or distribution operations.


• Strong commercial understanding with the ability to balance customer service, operational performance, and cost efficiency


• Experience managing change and driving continuous improvement initiatives.


• Strong knowledge of transport compliance, Health & Safety and operational best practice.


• Proven expertise in transport planning and route optimisation, supported by strong analytical and change management skills


• The ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.


• A coaching and development-focused leadership style.
