Job summary

Sol Recruitment Ltd in Sheffield is seeking an experienced Transport Manager to own and scale our transport operation. You will lead the HGV driver team, plan routes, manage fleet compliance and improve processes to support growth.

The role offers hands-on leadership in a fast-paced environment, with responsibility for recruitment, performance, KPIs and transitioning to a company-owned fleet. CPC is required and knowledge of waste/refuse operations is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Proven experience managing HGV drivers and transport operations.
• Strong route planning and fleet management experience.
• Experience recruiting and managing driver performance.
• Good knowledge of HGV vehicles, defects and compliance.
• Leadership and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the HGV driver team.
• Recruit, interview and onboard drivers.
• Plan and optimise daily HGV collection routes.
• Manage driver performance, attendance and productivity.
• Develop transport KPIs, processes and reporting.
• Manage vehicle defects, servicing, MOTs and breakdowns.
• Ensure vehicles and operations remain safe and compliant.
• Improve efficiency and reduce delays and missed collections.
• Support the transition from subcontracted to company-owned fleet operations.
• Help develop future supervisors and transport management structures.
