Job Overview:
The jobholder is expected to coordinate the logistical operations of the collection operations of the business and coordinate these with the individual sites in accordance with company standards and the legal requirements of the post. The post includes being appointed as the legal Transport Manager of a contingency site in case of any major business factor that may require its use.
Initially there will be a 3 to 6 month handover period with the incumbent Transport Manager to ensure a smooth transition and ensure a high level of support is given to the new appointee. During this period the appointee will be required to be appointed on the East of England Operators License.
Every individual has a responsibility for Health & Safety. The jobholder must ensure that his/her actions do not put oneself and others at risk, and cooperate fully with the company in respect to Health & Safety. To control and manage the companies transport fleet to comply with the legal constraints (‘O’ license, Maintenance and driver control / discipline). Ensure company procedures are complied and adhered to for all aspects of the Transport Operation. Coordinate and monitor effective training on all direct reports. Be the responsible person for Health & Safety with regards to the Transport Operation and the drivers that work with the associated sites. You are responsible for ensuring all accidents and near-misses are reported to your line manager immediately. Complete the formal investigation and lead the corrective action process. To ensure all company drivers and contractors comply with the Company policies & Procedures on Bio-Security, Hygiene and Health & Safety.

To be responsible for recruitment of drivers to ensure the correct resource is available at all times. Work within the agreed budget headcount and ensure Drivers are appropriately managed to deliver the companies products at the optimum costs. To be responsible for the selection, control & usage of contractors ensuring these are used in line with the correct procedures.
Manage the company’s distribution operations in accordance with legal constraints.

To have full control over the sites Transport budget, being able to proactively undertake budget reviews, monthly explanations of spend and account for the overall cost per unit performance of the operation with regard to Transport costs.

In conjunction with the driver trainer assessor (or designate) continue to develop and train the drivers to increase skill base. Maintain all service records and ensure that the document control (Tachograph / defect sheets etc) is accurate and complete at all times. Ensure driver licenses are checked every three months, and that driver disciplines (conduct/driving/attendance/adherence to company standards) are monitored and enforced. To work with the Driver trainer Assessor (or designate) to introduce an effective training and assessment programme. The demands of the business may change in line with customer requirements and changes may be made to the above guidelines. The jobholder should be flexible to the changing demands of the business.
The jobholder may be expected to complete training in the following areas. The requirements will be dependent on the jobholder’s previous experience, knowledge, qualifications, and the demands of the specific activities.
Physical demands:
The role is primarily desk based. The jobholder will be expected to assess his/her workstation, in line with the company’s DSE policy. The jobholder should have a reasonable level of fitness and should report any conditions that may be aggravated by the required activities. The jobholder will be expected to inspect vehicles and conduct risk assessments outside.
