Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management of the Distribution Department.
  • Ensure efficient routing and scheduling of vehicles, complying with driver hours regulations.
  • Maintain communication with other transport locations and collaborate with Sales teams.
  • Supervise daily transport operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective deliveries.
  • Monitor driver hours, breaks, and tachograph data for compliance.
  • Manage driver rotas, timesheets, and operational checks.
  • Oversee leave and absences in coordination with HR.
  • Collaborate with HR on recruitment, inductions, training, and PPE issuance.
  • Report RTAs or vehicle issues to the Operations Director.
  • Log and investigate transport misdemeanors and incidents.
  • Oversee depot operations ensuring quality standards compliance.

Job description

VANRATH are assisting with the recruitment of a Transport Manager for a major company that specialises in Distribution. This company has a fantastic reputation.

This is a Full-time position with flexible start times available.

Position: Permanent, based in Greysteel (Derry/Londonderry)

Salary: Negotiable + excellent benefits

Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership & Oversight: Provide leadership and management of the Distribution Department, including domestic drivers and routing teams across all locations.
  2. Routing & Compliance: Ensure efficient routing and scheduling of vehicles, complying with driver hours regulations and the Working Time Directive.
  3. Interdepartmental Coordination: Maintain communication with other transport locations and collaborate with Sales teams on delivery schedules and service expectations.
  4. Operational Monitoring: Supervise daily transport operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective deliveries in line with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: Monitor driver hours, breaks, and tachograph data to ensure full legislative compliance.
  6. Administrative Oversight: Manage driver rotas, timesheets, and operational checks; ensure accurate and timely documentation.
  7. Staff Management: Oversee leave and absences, working with HR to ensure operational continuity.
  8. Recruitment & Onboarding: Collaborate with HR on recruitment, inductions, training, and PPE issuance.
  9. Incident Reporting & Escalation: Report RTAs or vehicle issues to the Operations Director promptly.
  10. Disciplinary Procedures & Investigations: Log and investigate transport misdemeanours and incidents, resolving appropriately.
  11. Depot Management: Oversee depot operations, including storage, water dips, meter checks, tank gauging, and labelling, ensuring compliance with quality standards.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Extensive experience in Transport Management within large distribution environments, with knowledge of strategic distribution modeling.
  • CPC qualification preferred but not essential.
