Job description

Job Title: Transport Manager

Main Purpose of Job:

Boyd Recruitment is currently working alongside a leading company operating in energy, renewable, and telecommunication sectors, who are looking to recruit a Transport Manager.

The Transport Manager is responsible for leading the replacement programme for company vehicles and plant, managing the vehicle supply and maintenance contract, and ensuring compliance with statutory and Operator's Licence obligations. The role also involves contributing to the company's carbon reduction and climate mitigation strategies.

This role offers part-time work (3-4 days per week).

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

  • Provide strategic direction for fleet procurement, maintenance, inspection, and servicing to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Manage vehicle and maintenance budgets, making timely recommendations.
  • Advise management on transport and plant options, ensuring equipment suitability and availability.
  • Manage procurement and maintenance contracts for vehicle fleet and mobile plant.
  • Monitor contractor performance, ensuring service quality and implementing improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with all license conditions and respond to regulatory changes.
  • Authorize accounts, orders, and invoices within specified limits, ensuring compliance with company policies and legislation.
  • Coordinate vehicle and plant replacement programs from specification to commissioning.
  • Ensure user training on new vehicles and equipment.
  • Develop or amend transport systems with specialist support.
  • Analyze accident trends and advise relevant managers.
  • Oversee schedules for MOTs, inspections, and servicing.
  • Manage contracts for satellite tracking, fuel, traffic systems, and license checks.
  • Monitor and develop strategies to reduce fleet CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
  • Contribute to corporate projects and policy development.
  • Assist with transport budget setting and monitoring.
  • Promote health, safety, and equal opportunity practices within the section and contractors.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Maintain Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS).
