Job summary

Thanet District Council is seeking an experienced Transport and Fleet Manager to oversee the maintenance, compliance and procurement of the council’s fleet. The role involves managing the O Licence, leading the workshop team, and coordinating with other departments to deliver safe, efficient transport services and support the council’s Net Zero ambitions.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in fleet management or a similar role.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, compliance and procurement processes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Being the named Transport Manager on Thanet's O Licence.
• Ensuring fleet operations are conducted safely and compliantly.
• Managing the Workshop and Maintenance budget.
• Line management responsibility for the workshop staff.
• Lead on procurement of vehicles for all departments within the Council.
• Undertake and document regular checks on the fleet to ensure compliance and roadworthiness.
• Lead on any contact with the Traffic Commissioner.
• Monitoring and ensuring compliance with maintenance scheduling.
• Engagement with staff to ensure drivers comply with the law and best practice.
• Increase efficiency in vehicle maintenance and purchasing.
• Organising and planning annual DCPC courses to ensure relevance and productivity.
• Work with the waste and recycling team to increase awareness of fleet legislation and training.
• Promote continuous improvement to implement new working arrangements and vehicle purchases.
• Advise and contribute towards helping TDC reach Net Zero targets.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and qualified Transport and Fleet Manager to join our Waste and Recycling Team, to manage the maintenance, compliance and procurement of the fleet for all of Thanet District Council.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a similar role, and be able to work alongside the other departments to ensure that the residents of Thanet are given the best service possible and the fleet is completely compliant.

Main Duties

Being the named Transport Manager on Thanetâ??s O Licence

Ensuring that all operations in relation to the fleet are done so in a safe and compliant manner

Responsibility for the Workshop and Maintenance budget
