Transport Manager

We are looking for an experienced Transport Manager to lead the planning, delivery, and optimisation of a busy transport operation. You\'ll oversee a fleet of HGV vehicles, a team of drivers, and planning staff, ensuring exceptional service levels, compliance, and operational efficiency. With a significant transport budget to manage, this role offers the chance to drive improvements and deliver measurable results in a fast-paced environment.

Description of the role:

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the transport fleet, ensuring agreed customer service levels are consistently achieved.
  • Monitor and improve fleet efficiency, focusing on planning, vehicle utilisation, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maximise profitability of distribution activities through opportunities such as backloading and third-party work.
  • Maintain compliance with all legal, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Plan and monitor vehicle maintenance to minimise downtime.
  • Lead, train, and develop a team of drivers, planners, and admin staff.
  • Produce and review transport KPIs and financial performance reports.
  • Drive a culture of customer service, safety, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • CPC holder in Road Transport Operations (National or International).
  • Proven experience managing LGV fleets and distribution.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • High IT literacy and confident with transport systems and reporting.
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and commercially aware.
  • Experience in the construction industry desirable.
  • LGV Licence.
  • Familiarity with regional markets and key external hauliers.
