Job summary

A recruitment agency is seeking a Transport Coordinator to join a transport department in Barnsley. The role involves planning delivery and collection times, communicating with drivers, and ensuring compliance with transport regulations. Ideal candidates will have experience in transport operations, solid planning skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5.00pm.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Road Transport Directive and drivers' hours legislation.
  • Background in transport operations is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Create and update daily run summaries to meet deadlines.
  • Ensure service levels are maintained across departments.
  • Plan runs considering shifts, holidays, and sickness.
  • Maintain communication with drivers regarding loads and times.
  • Ensure legal compliance regarding vehicle maintenance.
  • Assist the team with various office functions.

Overview

GPS Recruitment have an opportunity with a valued client within their Transport department for a Transport Coordinator, working alongside the existing members of the Transport team to continually deliver a smooth service.

Ideally, we are looking to speak with people having some previous transport and vehicle routing knowledge/experience. The purpose of a Transport Coordinator is to effectively plan driver and vehicle resources to achieve delivery/collection times, whilst optimising resources and adhering to WTD and drivers' hours legislation.

Responsibilities
  • Create and update daily run summaries in order to achieve delivery and collection deadlines.
  • Ensure service levels are achieved and maintained, in conjunction with other departments.
  • Using the Driver rota, plan runs according to shift pattern and available hours, taking into account holidays and sickness.
  • Ensure legal compliance regarding any defects, services, MOTs, etc.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with drivers; communicate accurate start times, load information, directions, additional shifts, etc.
  • Ensure adherence to all statutory and legal requirements, as well as all health and safety/safe systems of work policies.
  • Assist the rest of the team in other functions within the office.
Essential experience
  • Planning and organising skills, with the ability to work efficiently and accurately to meet set deadlines under pressure.
  • Experience of planning vehicles nationwide would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Road Transport Directive and current drivers' hours.
  • A background in transport operations.
Key personal skills
  • A strong national geographical knowledge and experience of planning vehicles nationwide would be an advantage.
  • A background in transport is desirable but not essential.
  • Computer literate, with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Able to manage your own work time to achieve timed daily duties.
  • Able to work within a small team.
Working hours

8.30am-5.00pm, Monday to Friday
