We are looking for an experienced Transport Consultant to join Transport Consultancy Wales Ltd.

This is a varied, hands-on role working with a wide range of commercial vehicle operators across Wales and England, helping them maintain high standards of operator licence compliance, vehicle roadworthiness and transport management.

We are particularly interested in someone with a strong background in commercial vehicle maintenance, fleet compliance and auditing.

The role

A significant part of this position involves visiting customers at their premises, carrying out compliance audits and reviews, examining maintenance and driver records, identifying areas for improvement and working directly with operators and transport managers.

Our customers are located throughout Wales and England, so regular travel is an essential part of the role. Applicants should be comfortable spending a considerable amount of their working week visiting customer sites, travelling and working independently away from the office.

The position will also involve office-based compliance work, including reviewing records, monitoring customer systems, preparing reports and following up on actions identified during audits and site visits.

The role will include:

• Carrying out customer site visits across Wales and England
• Conducting transport compliance audits and producing detailed audit reports
• Reviewing vehicle maintenance and roadworthiness systems
• Checking PMI/safety inspection records and maintenance documentation
• Reviewing brake test reports, defect reporting and rectification records
• Monitoring MOTs, recalls, inspection frequencies and maintenance planning
• Reviewing drivers' hours and tachograph compliance
• Monitoring driver licence, Driver CPC and training records
• Reviewing OCRS and operator licence compliance
• Identifying non-conformities, areas of risk and opportunities for improvement
• Developing corrective action plans and monitoring progress
• Assisting customers with DVSA and Traffic Commissioner requirements
• Providing practical advice and support to transport managers and operators
• Producing professional reports, action plans and compliance recommendations
• Supporting customers with ongoing compliance management

About you

Ideally, you will have practical experience within the HGV/commercial vehicle industry, particularly in vehicle maintenance, workshop management, fleet engineering or transport compliance.

A Transport Manager CPC qualification would be highly desirable, although we would also consider someone with excellent commercial vehicle maintenance knowledge who is keen to develop further within transport compliance.

You should also have experience of carrying out audits and/or hold a recognised auditing qualification. Experience of quality management systems or formal compliance auditing would be particularly advantageous.

You will need to be:

• Confident reviewing commercial vehicle maintenance documentation
• Familiar with DVSA roadworthiness requirements and industry best practice
• Experienced or qualified in auditing and comfortable assessing compliance against defined standards
• Able to identify non-conformities and clearly document findings and corrective actions
• Comfortable dealing directly with customers, drivers, transport managers and senior management
• Professional and confident when representing TCW at customer premises
• Organised and able to manage a varied workload across multiple operators
• Comfortable working independently and managing your own schedule
• Confident using computer-based systems and producing professional reports
• Happy to travel regularly throughout Wales and England as an integral part of the role
• A full UK driving licence holder
