Overview

Transport Assistant Manager

Location: Newry | Type: Full-Time - 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 6 as per a rota
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Were seeking a proactive and organised Transport Assistant Manager to oversee our daily delivery operations. Youll play a key role in ensuring efficient route planning, driver performance, and fleet compliance while driving continuous improvement across the team.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, review, and optimise delivery routes with a focus on cost-efficiency and service performance.
  • Manage driver rotas (4 weeks in advance), ensuring full shift coverage and effective absence planning.
  • Oversee driver performance, including hours, safety standards, uniform compliance, and debriefing.
  • Maintain fleet tracking and provide real-time delivery updates to the customer service team.
  • Ensure all drivers complete vehicle checks and logbooks daily; perform regular fleet audits.
  • Coordinate vehicle servicing, repairs (including fridges), and ensure all certifications are up to date.
  • Maintain accurate records of mileage, servicing, tax, and insurance using the fleet spreadsheet.
  • Monitor and reconcile fuel usage weekly; manage fuel card and key returns.
  • Induct new drivers and maintain up-to-date licence checks and a skills matrix for coverage planning.
  • Provide senior management with regular updates on departmental performance, covering financial outcomes, operational efficiency and key team metrics.
  • Lead and support the team across all aspects of people management
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and ensure depot readiness for audits.
  • Support a smooth handover process between day and night teams.
