Job description

Primary Function: Responsible for providing non-nursing patient support services, including transporting patients, laboratory specimens, and equipment, morgue runs, errands and deliveries, and maintaining a safe and suitable work environment for all patients.

Responsibilities:

  1. Transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed within the hospital. Assist nursing and other clinical personnel with patient transfers to/from transportation equipment. Assist patients into and out of automobiles using established procedures when discharging or transporting. Place equipment in vehicles as necessary. Transport deceased patients to the hospital morgue as required, ensuring corridors are clear of obstructions.
  2. Deliver laboratory specimens, x-rays, lab reports, telephone requests, stock requisitions, and other miscellaneous items, including patient belongings and reports, to support the nursing unit.
  3. Demonstrate a high level of patient engagement by communicating effectively with patients during transport. Inform patients about the tests being performed and discuss their hospital stay to improve their experience.
  4. Move wheeled equipment such as hospital beds, carts, cardiac geriatric chairs, and supplies as instructed; transport medical equipment to discharge areas. Clean and maintain all transport and medical equipment, keeping areas tidy and safe. Report any broken equipment or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
  5. Assist in training new employees in daily procedures, ensuring adherence to hospital policies, rules, and regulations.
  6. Assist hospitality associates with cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms as required.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Specifications: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
