Role Overview

Working with Architects and other Designers, the role holder will develop designs and low-level configurations for Virgin Media O2’s mobile access & aggregation transport networks. These networks will enable integration with Virgin Media O2’s radio equipment, access, and core networks. The role involves collaborating with providers of optical, microwave, Ethernet, and IP connectivity products to build IP connectivity solutions between radio equipment (located at cell sites and sometimes at core sites), access devices (such as OLTs, CPEs), and the core transport networks. Support for testing and trial activities will be required to ensure designs and configurations are suitable for deployment. The role also includes planning steps for smooth migration between different designs and configurations.

Must-Have Experience

• Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of TCP, UDP, and main L3/L2 routing protocols.
• Experience in designing, planning, configuring, and testing carrier-grade IP/MPLS transport networks.
• Experience in defining IP Quality of Service configurations, including HQoS, and mechanisms for traffic prioritization at Ethernet and IP layers.
• Deep understanding of IP addressing policies applicable to carrier-class networks.
• Experience in producing High-Level and Low-Level Designs and Scopes of Work for carrier-grade IP Networks.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional skills we'd love you to have:

• Familiarity with transport design in mobile networks (Radio Access Network).
• Experience with sync techniques for mobile infrastructure, specifically PTP and Phase Sync.
• Knowledge of BT’s MEAS and IPVPN backhaul products.
• Experience designing mobile backhaul networks for Ericsson and Nokia Radio Access Networks.
• Experience producing HLDs and LLDs for Transport IP Network elements, preferably with Nokia, Juniper, and Ciena routing and switching environments.
