The Methodist Church in Britain seeks a fixed-term Research Fellow to lead the host-galaxy strand of the TRANSCEND project at Southampton, collaborating with Lancaster and Oxford. You will analyse LSST and TiDES data to connect transient events with their galactic environments and contribute to TiDES infrastructure.

The role requires a PhD or near completion in astrophysics or a related field, and strong Python programming and collaboration skills to drive the research forward within this

Qualifications

• PhD, or near completion, in astrophysics, physics, cosmology or a related field.
• Research experience in time-domain astrophysics, supernovae, galaxy evolution, cosmology or survey science
• Strong scientific programming skills in Python

Responsabilités

• Derive host-galaxy properties from LSST and TiDES photometric and spectroscopic data
• Use the LSST and TiDES transient sample to study how transients correlate with their environments
• Measure transient rates to uncover the physical origins of stellar deaths
• Follow up interesting transients
• Pursue projects that maximise the science from TiDES
• Contribute part of your time to TiDES infrastructure work
• Work closely with the other TRANSCEND postholders through regular collaboration visits
