Job summary

Dovetail and Slate is recruiting a Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join the education team on-site at HMP Whitemoor in March, Cambridgeshire. You will deliver City & Guilds Functional Skills Maths from Entry Level 1 to Level 2, teaching small groups of up to 12 adults and supporting rehabilitation through practical, relevant maths.

The role focuses on inclusive, differentiated lesson plans, assessments using BKSB, ILPs, and collaboration with prison staff and employability teams to improve

Qualifications

• A Level 3 qualification in Mathematics.
• Level 5 teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, or equivalent) desirable.
• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths, preferably in prison education or FE.

Responsibilities

• Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver interactive City & Guilds Functional Skills Maths sessions to small class sizes (up to 12 learners) across Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
• Assessment & Tracking: Conduct initial assessments and utilise BKSB diagnostic tools to establish baseline levels, setting up and maintaining ILPs.
• Targeted Support: Design inclusive, differentiated lesson plans catering to diverse learning abilities and additional needs, thoroughly preparing learners for formal examinations.
• Enrichment & Collaboration: Promote numeracy, functional literacy, and reading for pleasure across the prison environment while working alongside prison staff, support practitioners, and employability teams.
