In this role you will provide a robust and reliable Forensic Collision Investigation service to investigative teams across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. You will play a crucial role in investigating road traffic collisions; especially those resulting in fatalities or series injuries.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the FCIU complies with the Forensic Science Regulator’s Codes of Practice and requirements under ISO 17020/25 and requirements of Criminal and Civil Procedure Rules.

What you’ll be doing:

  • You will attend the scene, gather evidence and report on all fatal and life‑threatening collisions.
  • You will identify, preserve, interpret and present evidence which will assist the investigation.
  • You will ensure appropriate material and topography is photographed.
  • You will be required to complete and pass the University Certificate in Professional Development (UCPD) in Forensic Road Collision Investigation.
  • You will be expected to complete and pass a one‑year Certificate in Higher Education course (CertHE), a two‑year Foundation Degree (FdSc) and a two‑year Batchelor of Science Degree (BSc) in Forensic Collision Investigation.

Transferee requirements

If you are high performing and looking for a new challenge, then this could be the place for you. In return, as a police officer transferring from a Home Office Police Force, you will retain:

  • Your previous service and current levels of pay (excluding force specific benefits i.e. London weighting).
  • Annual leave entitlement, as long as there is no break in service.
  • Your current pension arrangements.

Inclusivity is important to Leicestershire Police which is why we are looking for talented individuals to reflect the communities we serve. Whatever your background, ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual orientation, we welcome you and your application.

The must haves

  • Be a member of a Home Office force or Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) or Police Scotland (please note we cannot accept an application to transfer from an officer serving with a non‑Home Office police force).
  • If you are a re‑joiner, you will be required to undertake a 6‑month probation period. If you are re‑joining at a different rank or you left your previous force more than 1 year ago, you will be required to undertake a 12‑month probationary period.
  • Re‑joiners at the same rank will re‑enter the service on the pay scale point at which they left their previous force. Officers re‑joining at a higher or lower rank will have their pay considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
  • Have a full manual driving licence.
  • Have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues.
  • Be confirmed in the rank on Constable (student officers within their probationary period cannot be considered)

If you have applied previously and were unsuccessful at interview, you must wait a minimum of six months before a further application will be considered.

What’s in it for you?

At Leicestershire Police, we want to create an environment that puts people first, so you feel supported in everything you do. We have a range of reward and benefits available to all our employees.

We value diversity and inclusion and encourage applications from underrepresented and neurodiverse backgrounds, so that we can truly reflect the communities that we serve in.
