Job Description:

TRANSACTIONAL CONSTRUCTION (PROJECTS) LAWYER

SCOTLAND AND UK REGIONS

Brief

Our Construction and Engineering Group is expanding, and we are looking to recruit a talented transactional (non-contentious) construction lawyer, ideally with experience in the energy sector though not essential, with 4-8 years' PQE. This role involves transactional construction work, focusing on renewable energy projects mainly across the UK, with consideration for all UK office locations, preferably Scottish. The role involves working with partners based in Scotland and our wider UK team.

Did you know?

We are the largest team of specialist construction lawyers globally, with over 350 energy and infrastructure specialists. We have been awarded Construction Law firm of the Year (Who's Who Legal) for the last fifteen years.

Our Team

Our construction team works nationally and internationally, with Scotland-based partners leading key projects. We are listed as Tier 1 in the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners for Scotland in construction, energy, and projects categories.

We seek a construction and engineering lawyer with extensive experience advising on major projects in energy and infrastructure sectors, recognized for non-contentious construction practice, especially in energy.

We advise clients on all aspects of non-contentious construction, including large-scale development projects, with particular expertise in renewable energy supply chain arrangements. Our team is known for its depth of talent and international reach, acting for developers, funders, project companies, contractors, and insurers across sectors like offshore and onshore renewables, hydrogen, nuclear, water, hydro, oil, and gas.

Client Feedback

Clients praise our team for quality work, resourcefulness, and commercial pragmatism, with examples from hub South West Scotland and GrainCorp Limited.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience in transactional (non-contentious) construction work, preferably in energy but open to other sectors, with a desire to develop a diverse portfolio across UK and international projects. They should have worked in large firms, in-house legal teams, or local authorities, be team-oriented, enthusiastic, commercially astute, and possess strong interpersonal skills.

The role offers involvement in top-tier national and international projects, relationship development with existing clients, and opportunities within an international team.

What We Offer

  • Exposure to high-quality, global construction work and clients.
  • Early responsibility and client relationship development opportunities.
  • Comprehensive training and career development programs.
  • An inclusive culture supporting work-life balance and wellbeing.
