Butler Rose is recruiting a Transactional Accounting Manager (Temp) in Plymouth to lead the transactional finance function, including AP, AR and Banking operations, and to drive improvements across processes and controls.

Reporting to senior finance leadership, the role combines hands-on leadership with strategic enhancements, overseeing a small team and partnering with wider finance and operational colleagues to enhance accuracy, efficiency and service delivery.

Transactional Accounting Manager (Temp)

Butler Rose is delighted to be working with a well-established and growing organisation to recruit a Transactional Accounting Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to lead a key transactional finance function whilst driving continuous improvement across systems, controls and processes.

Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the transactional finance team, with responsibility for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Banking functions. Whilst there is already strong support within Accounts Receivable, we are particularly keen to speak with candidates who possess strong expertise across Accounts Payable and Banking operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll be expected to roll up your sleeves, solve complex issues, identify root causes and implement long-term solutions that enhance efficiency, accuracy and control.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the transactional finance function, overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Banking activities.
• Manage and support a team of at least three direct reports, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
• Ensure the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of transactional accounting processes.
• Investigate and resolve complex financial and operational issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes, controls and systems.
• Review current procedures and identify opportunities for greater automation and efficiency.
• Partner with wider finance and operational teams to improve financial workflows and service delivery.
• Support broader finance projects and system enhancements as the business continues to evolve.

About You

• Previous experience within a Transactional Finance Manager, Shared Services Manager, Head of Transaction Accounting or similar leadership role.
• Strong understanding of Accounts Payable, Banking and transactional finance operations.
• Proven experience managing teams of three or more direct reports.
• Demonstrable track record of delivering process improvements and implementing positive change.
• Comfortable balancing strategic improvements with hands-on problem solving.
• Naturally curious, inquisitive and resilient with a proactive approach to overcoming challenges.
• Self-motivated with the ability to learn independently and take ownership of initiatives.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
