Job summary

NHS England, Thames Valley Local Office, invites applications for a Consultant with a strong interest in medical education to be Training Programme Director for O&G ST1/2 residents, also incorporating Teaching Lead responsibilities.

The role focuses on learner supervision, curriculum alignment and educational outcomes, with collaboration across multi-professional teams and the ultrasound teaching components. Office-based with travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Colleagues with an office base are expected to spend about 40% of time in our offices.

Job description

Within NHS England, South East Region, the Thames Valley Local Office is responsible for the planning, development, education and training of the future and current healthcare and public health workforce across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant with a strong interest in medical education and training to be the Training Programme Director for O&G ST1 & 2 resident doctors, also incorporating the Teaching Lead role.

The role of the Training Programme Director is to work with the Head of School in Leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to NHS England mandate.
Training Programme Directors (TPD) are professionally and managerially accountable to the Head of School. TPDs will focus on improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future. The role is evolving and will also focus on whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.
To support the Postgraduate Dean, TPDs will work across the spectrum of health and where relevant, social care, within the context of a team, so that the provision of education reflects changing service models. This will deliver an integrated workforce comprising individuals from a spectrum of professional and other backgrounds.
The Teaching Lead element of this role is designed to ensure that ST 1/2 residents have access to necessary training opportunities that meet basic curriculum requirements. This includes curriculum mapping and ensuring appropriate use of the ePortfolio. Collaboration with College Tutors and Educational Supervisors is essential in this process.
The Teaching lead is also responsible for monitoring and documenting trainees’ performance in the part 1 MRCOG exam, providing feedback to the school board, and contributing to the Annual Report. Additionally, they will work alongside the ultrasound training coordinator to facilitate the completion of basic ultrasound modules as specified in the curriculum.
