Job description

An outstanding individual is sought to fulfill the role of Training Programme Director for Thoracic Surgery & Education.

The post will be available on the basis of a secondment arrangement to NHS England, remunerated on the NHS Consultant Pay Scale – 0.5 PA / 2 hours per week.

All work undertaken is to be incorporated into the Consultant Job Plan. The role of Training Programme Director is to work and support the Head of School in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the NHS England mandate.

The Training Programme Director is professionally and managerially accountable to the Head of School. The role focuses on improving learner supervision, assessment, and experience; engaging faculty; and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future. It will also evolve to emphasize whole workforce transformation, developing multi-professional links, innovative curriculum delivery, and workforce well-being strategies.

To support the Postgraduate Dean, Training Programme Directors work across health and social care sectors within a team, ensuring education reflects changing service models and delivers an integrated workforce from diverse professional backgrounds.

Delivering Results/Functional Responsibilities
  • Ensuring high standards of education and training as defined by the General Medical Council and other national bodies, in Yorkshire and the Humber.
  • Commitment to national policies for effective educational quality management.
  • Meeting objectives within budget, with contribution to cost savings when required.
  • Ensuring adherence to Code of Practice Guidelines.
  • Providing accurate guidance to trainees on OOP/IDTs/LTFT/Acting up applications.
