Job description
Role Overview

The Training Manager leads the development and delivery of high-quality training across our residential children's homes. With a strong background in social care and learning & development, you will ensure all staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values to meet the diverse and complex needs of the children and young people in our care.

You will
  • Design and deliver mandatory and bespoke training programmes.
  • Act as the registered centre manager with the awarding organisation (NCFE).
  • Maintain robust internal quality assurance standards in line with regulatory requirements and best practice.
  • Play a key role in embedding our culture, values, and "Only Outstanding" principles across all homes.

Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery & Development
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate all mandatory training (e.g. Safeguarding, First Aid, Medication).
  • Create and deliver bespoke training tailored to the therapeutic, emotional, and behavioural needs of children and young people.
  • Ensure all training is trauma-informed, attachment-aware, and rooted in child-centred practice.
Assessment & Quality Assurance
  • Assess staff competence and identify learning needs in line with regulatory frameworks and individual development plans.
  • Deliver assessments for learners completing Level 3 and Level 5 Diplomas.
  • Conduct Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) activities to maintain consistent standards of training and assessment.
  • Maintain accurate training records, reports, and compliance data for audits, Ofsted, and local authority inspections.
Staff Support & Development
  • Work collaboratively with managers and training coordinators to identify home-specific training needs.
  • Coach and mentor staff to support professional development, diploma progression, and CPD.
  • Support induction and onboarding to ensure new staff are confident and prepared.
Compliance & Safeguarding
  • Ensure all training meets Ofsted and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a strong safeguarding culture and ensure staff understand their responsibilities.
  • Monitor refresh/expiry dates for all mandatory training to ensure 100% compliance.
Person Specification
Essential
  • Level 3 Award in Education & Training, with willingness to achieve Level 5.
  • Recognised Assessor qualification (TAQA/A1) and IQA qualification.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, research-informed practice, and child development.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to inspire, engage, and motivate staff teams.
  • Experience in designing and delivering blended learning programmes.
  • Knowledge of Children\'s Homes Regulations 2015 and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
Desirable
  • Experience in a residential childcare or social care setting.
  • Previous experience assessing Diplomas up to Level 5.
  • Experience leading a training department or equivalent.
