Job description

Training Coordinator

Location: Uddinsgton, Galsgow

Join our Team at Macphie - Let us introduce ourselves...

Macphie, an internationally acclaimed family ingredient manufacturer, proudly situated in the picturesque and tranquil landscapes of Glenbervie in Aberdeenshire with sites in Glasgow and Midlands too. Our expertise spans across a spectrum of delectable delights, including sauces, bakery creations, and heavenly ice cream toppings. Opportunity

Are you passionate about helping people learn, develop and feel confident in what they do?

We're looking for a Training Coordinator to join our Learning & Development team and play a key role in developing how we coordinate and deliver training across our manufacturing operation.

This is a new role within Macphie, created to provide dedicated, hands-on training support across the business, with a particular focus on our Operations teams.

It's a varied opportunity that combines training coordination, practical training delivery, administration and continuous improvement. You'll spend time out in the operation working with colleagues and managers, while also making sure our training records, competency matrices and compliance requirements are accurate and up to date.

You don't need to arrive knowing every piece of equipment or every manufacturing process. We're looking for someone with a strong training background who is confident working with people, comfortable with systems and data, and keen to learn and grow with the role.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Typical working hours will be 9:00am–5:00pm.

As this role supports colleagues working across different shift patterns, some flexibility will be required on an ad hoc basis to support training on later or night shifts. Where night-shift working is required, an 8.5% shift allowance will apply in line with our company policy.

What You’ll be doing

Working closely with our Learning & Development Manager, you'll help bring structure, consistency and visibility to training across the site.

Your role will include:

  • Coordinating training plans and activities across our operational teams.
  • Delivering training and supporting practical, face-to-face and on-the-job learning.
  • Supporting new starter inductions and operational onboarding.
  • Maintaining training records, competency matrices and compliance information.
  • Monitoring training completion and identifying skills, competency or compliance gaps.
  • Working with managers, Team Leaders and subject matter experts to make sure colleagues receive the right training for their roles.
  • Supporting the development of training materials, programmes and learning resources.
  • Using our 360Learning platform and other systems to manage training information and learning activities.
  • Supporting training around areas such as food safety, Health & Safety, quality, new equipment, processes and operational change.
  • Helping develop competency frameworks and supporting managers with the assessment and sign-off of colleague competence.
  • Coordinating external and internal training requirements, from identifying who needs training through to booking, completion and record keeping.
  • Producing training reports and using data to highlight gaps and areas requiring attention.
  • Supporting audits by ensuring training and competency records are accurate and audit-ready.
  • Helping us continuously improve how training is delivered and experienced across the business.

As the role develops, there will also be opportunities to broaden your own training capability and qualifications. This could include areas such as FLT/MHE instruction, food safety training and assessor qualifications.

You might already be a Training Coordinator, Operational Trainer, Manufacturing Trainer or FLT/MHE Trainer, or you could be an experienced production, warehouse or operations professional who has taken responsibility for training and developing others.

Manufacturing experience would be great, but it isn't essential. We'd also be interested in hearing from people with training experience gained within logistics, warehousing, engineering, FMCG, food and drink or another operational environment.

What's most important is that you can bring:

  • Experience coordinating and/or delivering training within an operational environment.
  • Confidence delivering training and explaining processes clearly to different audiences.
  • Experience maintaining training records, matrices or competency information.
  • Strong administration and IT skills, with the confidence to work with learning systems, data and digital tools.
  • The ability to look at training and compliance information, identify gaps and take action.
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to take ownership of training activities from start to finish.
  • A proactive approach – someone who spots what needs to be done rather than waiting to be asked.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work with colleagues at all levels.
  • A practical, approachable style and the confidence to spend time working alongside colleagues within the manufacturing environment.
  • An interest in developing your own training capability as the role grows.

Experience within food manufacturing and knowledge of food safety, quality or Health & Safety requirements would be advantageous, but we're happy to support the right person in developing their knowledge.

Qualifications such as Train the Trainer, AET, Assessor or RTITB/MHE Instructor would also be beneficial, but aren't essential. If you don't currently hold an RTITB/MHE instructor qualification, there may be an opportunity to work towards this as part of your development.
