Role Overview:
This role is responsible for the development and delivery of high-quality training programmes aligned to the Surveying Technician (Level 3) apprenticeship standard. The Trainer will support learners in acquiring the technical knowledge, professional behaviours, and practical skills needed for success in surveying roles across the construction, land, and property sectors.
This includes delivering structured classroom sessions, workshops, and workplace coaching tailored to employer requirements, while guiding learners through core topics such as land and building measurement, data collection, CAD use, health & safety, and sustainability in surveying.
Role responsibilities and requirements:
- Design and deliver engaging training programmes for Surveying Technician apprentices, using a range of delivery models including classroom, remote, and on-site sessions.
- Prepare training materials including schemes of work, session plans, learner resources, and assessment activities in line with apprenticeship standards and awarding body requirements.
- Provide clear instruction and coaching on technical topics such as:
- Measured surveys (e.g. topographical, building)
- Use of digital surveying equipment (e.g. Total Stations, GPS)
- Construction technology and methods
- Site safety and risk assessments
- Property law, regulations, and ethics
- Sustainability and environmental best practice
- Support learners in producing a portfolio of evidence and preparing for the End-Point Assessment (EPA).
- Ensure delivery meets the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) of the apprenticeship standard.
- Work collaboratively with employers to contextualise training, ensure relevance to industry, and measure impact.
- Provide regular progress reviews, learning support, and pastoral guidance to maximise learner engagement and achievement.
- Monitor learner attendance, participation, and progression through internal systems.
- Deliver training in line with Ofsted and ESFA requirements, maintaining up-to-date records and complying with quality assurance procedures.
- Work to meet learner retention, achievement, and satisfaction targets.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout delivery and learner support.
- Hold a Level 3 qualification (or higher) in a related surveying, construction, or civil engineering discipline.
- Hold a recognised teaching qualification (e.g., Level 3 Award in Education and Training or above) or be willing to work towards this.
- Have industry experience in surveying (land or building) and familiarity with modern surveying tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, Total Station).
- Understanding of the Surveying Technician apprenticeship standard and End-Point Assessment process.
- Strong organisation and administrative skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience of unsupervised working and using own initiative.
- Ability to understand different learning styles and differentiate teaching methods accordingly.
- Motivational and able to inspire learners.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging, motivational sessions tailored to individual learner needs.
