Job description

UK Jewish Film exhibits the best of world Jewish cinema in the UK and internationally, provides support and training to new and emerging filmmakers, and delivers education events for a wide variety of audiences. The UK Jewish Film Festival (6- 16 November) this year celebrates its 29th anniversary and will be in cinemas nationwide and online. We are a BAFTA-qualifying festival and the largest festival of our type in Europe.

Volunteer placements are designed to provide successful candidates with hands-on experience in the production and/or marketing of film festivals. They will provide structured opportunities for the right candidates and many of our former trainees have gone on to successful careers in the film and TV industries.

  • 2 days per week across 1 to 3 months
  • The position will start anytime between September to November. Trainees are expected to work a minimum of two days a week until the beginning of the festival, when hours will increase to accommodate for the festival. As our festival takes place during November, you must be available during that time.
  • UK Jewish Film is an inclusive working environment, and we operate on a hybrid working basis. However, during the festival, we do expect trainees to work some unsocial hours, including evenings and weekends, to help cover the 10-day festival in venues across London.
Role responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Digital Marketing Manager and Festival Team, as well as through interaction with other team members, the successful candidates will have the opportunity to engage in a full spectrum of entry-level tasks, gaining an understanding of how the organisation works as well as acquiring practical knowledge and skills required in the film industry.

Our trainee opportunities aim to skill up candidates in these specific areas:

Digital Marketing – Trainees will learn about website creation and management as well as social media marketing across all social media platforms. Trainees will be taught about optimum marketing strategies, studying algorithms, statistical analysis, and creating content – especially in video form.

Festival Production – Trainees will learn basic skills of event planning, including venue relationships, film testing, audience management, and learning about our box office platform.

To gain full experience, trainees are strongly encouraged to participate in the entire range of activities. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a willingness to develop in all aspects of the department’s work. When the traineeship is completed, we will provide detailed formal feedback and a reference.

Placements are awarded to enthusiastic candidates who wish to build on their skills in this environment and gain a broader understanding through practical experience.
