The role

The Service Delivery Underwriting teams are based regionally across the UK in hubs such as Colchester, Glasgow, and York. They are part of Hiscox UK's central operations, responsible for the volume underwriting of referrals for both new and existing business.

These teams manage approximately 95% of policies written and 45% of gross written premium in our UK retail division.

The Trainee Underwriters work within underwriting teams to deliver excellent service aligned with sales strategies. Their responsibilities include creating renewal terms, retaining customers on optimal terms, and cross-selling products to existing clients.

This role offers development opportunities and exposure to our products, underwriting platform, and strategy.

What You’ll be doing:

• Underwriting new and existing business across our commercial (PSC) products, maintaining high standards.
• Engaging with broker distribution channels and commercial insurance products.
• Meeting monthly targets related to profitability, GWP, conversion, retention, cross-sell, referral rate, quotes per day, turnaround times, workflow, and customer service.
• Developing sales skills and understanding of underwriting strategy through collaboration.
• Negotiating effectively with internal and external contacts, including brokers.
• Challenging non-standard underwriting decisions by consulting product specialists and senior team members.
• Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance customer experience and growth.
