Job summary

Vision for Education are recruiting a Trainee Teaching Assistant to support pupils in North Somerset across Weston-super-Mare and surrounding towns. The role offers progression through our NTAP online training in safeguarding, SEN awareness, behaviour management, and related topics, with roles in mainstream and SEN schools.

The position includes full-time and part-time opportunities, term-time hours, and a September 2026 start date.

Qualifications

  • Supporting students with SEND, SEMH, autism and additional learning needs.
  • Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery and behaviour management.
  • Supporting students 1:1 and in small groups.

Trainee Teaching Assistant

Job: Trainee Teaching Assistant – SEN Schools – Vision for Education

Location:North Somerset - Weston-super-Mare, Nailsea, Clevedon, Yatton, Cheddar, Sandford, Portishead.
Salary:£14.24 p/h – higher rates available depending on experience/qualifications
Contract Type:Full-time & part-time available
Start Date:September 2026

Ready to kickstart your career as a Teaching Assistant? Vision for Education are excited to offer the opportunity to become a Teaching Assistant in mainstream and SEN Schools across North Somerset. Our National Teaching Assistant Programme (NTAP) provides excellent online training in courses such as Safeguarding, Understanding SEN, Behaviour Management and an Introduction into becoming a Teaching Assistant. These courses are a requirement after a successful interview, and are beneficial to gain knowledge in these topics prior to gaining hands-on classroom experience.

We are currently recruiting Trainee Teaching Assistants for permanent, temporary, and long-term supply positions across a network of high-performing and outstanding schools in Weston-super-Mare, Nailsea, Clevedon, Yatton, Cheddar, Sandford, Portishead.

As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • Supporting students with SEND, SEMH, autism, and additional learning needs
  • Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery and behaviour management
  • Supporting students in the classroom on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Helping pupils with literacy, numeracy, and emotional regulation
  • Creating a positive, inclusive learning environment

As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you will work in welcoming, inclusive, and well-resourced schools that:

  • Have strong leadership teams and supportive SEN departments

Pay & Hours:14.24 p/h (PAYE) Monday - Friday 08:30am - 15:30pm, term time only.
