Trainee Teaching Assistant – Newport

We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team across schools in Newport. This role is perfect for anyone eager to gain valuable hands-on experience in alternative provision settings, working closely with children facing social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, ADHD, and anxiety.

What You’ll Be Doing

Providing essential classroom support both in group settings and on a one-to-one basis, with a focus on emotional regulation and positive behaviour guidance

Creating a warm, inclusive environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and encouraged to thrive

Gaining practical experience supporting pupils with additional needs such as SEMH, ADHD, and anxiety-related difficulties

Helping implement positive behaviour strategies that promote personal growth and academic success

Building strong, meaningful relationships with learners, colleagues, and families to ensure consistent, collaborative support

Supporting pupils to develop emotional literacy, communication skills, and social confidence

What We’re Looking For

A real passion for supporting children with additional learning or behavioural needs

Someone who can connect with students through patience, empathy, and genuine care

Positive, encouraging, and dedicated to helping every learner succeed in their own way

Strong communication skills with the ability to listen and respond with kindness and clarity

Commitment to building a meaningful, long-term career in SEND or alternative provision

Availability Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) or willing to register (we’ll guide you through it if needed)
