Trainee Support Technician (2) (Fixed Term)

Dumfries

£25,305 - £25,737

This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career in ICT within a supportive and forward-thinking team at Dumfries and Galloway Council. As a Trainee ICT Support Technician, you will gain hands-on experience while contributing to the delivery of secure, resilient, and effective ICT services across the Council's ICT estate.

You will be supported in learning and assisting with a wide range of ICT services, including:

End-user devices (desktops, laptops, mobile devices)

Network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, switches, firewalls)

Cloud platforms (e.g. Microsoft 365, Azure)

Cyber security (endpoint protection, access controls, patching)

Key Responsibilities

Assist with technical support and troubleshooting across ICT service areas

Help deploy, configure, and maintain hardware and software

Support network and cloud infrastructure operations under supervision

Contribute to cyber security monitoring and incident response activities

Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high service standards and user satisfaction

About You

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:

A keen interest in ICT and a willingness to learn in a structured environment

Basic understanding of ICT systems and networks, ideally within a domain network

A relevant academic qualification (e.g. NC, HNC) or a strong interest in pursuing industry certifications (e.g. CompTIA, Microsoft)

A proactive and adaptable approach to new challenges

Good communication and teamwork skills

A current driving licence or the ability to travel independently across the region

Full training and mentoring will be provided to support your development.

This post is fixed term for up to 18 months.
