Are you ready to kickstart your career in sign fabrication and installation?
As a Trainee Sign Shop Technician, you will master the art of creating and installing signs using industry-recognised materials and cutting-edge techniques.
You'll become a safety expert, preparing and installing signing, lighting, and guarding in compliance with the Safety at Street Works and Road Works code of practice (Red Book), ensuring the highest safety standards. You'll develop essential skills, gaining a strong understanding of safe working practices to protect yourself and others. Harness your technical abilities by using electrical and mechanical tools to cut, shape, and assemble signs with precision.
You'll enhance your ability to manage tasks efficiently, work independently, and be a valuable team player, all while maintaining accurate records of your work.
The Sign Shop is crucial to ensuring that all traffic signs and related products are fabricated and installed to the highest standards, contributing to the safety and efficiency of the borough's transportation infrastructure. As a Trainee Sign Shop Technician, you will be an integral part of the Highways Sign Shop team, directly contributing to the delivery of high-quality and responsive services.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Working Knowledge of Safe Practices:Possess a working knowledge of safe working practices to ensure the health and safety of yourself and others.
Sign Manufacturing Skills:Learn to manufacture signs using a range of industry-recognised materials and installation techniques.
Compliance with Safety Regulations:Learn to prepare and install signing, lighting, and guarding in compliance with the Safety at Street Works and Road Works code of practice (Red Book).
Initiative and Independence:Ability to use your own initiative and work alone, as well as being prepared to read and understand maps and plans for traffic management layout.
Machinery and Tool Proficiency: Ability to use machinery and work under minimum supervision, including operating power/hand tools and learning to install signs to walls and lamp columns.
Flexibility and Reliability:Be reliable and flexible in your work approach, able to listen and follow instructions, and willing to learn in a busy sign shop environment.
