Job description

This developmental post offers a structured and supported learning pathway to develop skills and competence within a busy integrated sexual health environment.

The post holder will receive training in all aspects of sexual health over a two-year period.

Essential skills include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with an enthusiastic approach to learning and development.

Responsibilities include assessing, planning, and delivering sexual health care based on the practitioner's knowledge, skills, and experience. Care delivery will evolve through ongoing learning.

Service delivery will involve promoting and issuing contraception methods, screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), performing diagnostic procedures, and providing treatment and management of STIs in line with BASHH and NICE guidance.

The post holder will provide a confidential, safe environment for patients to discuss sexual health issues and refer to Specialist Nurses or Health Advisers for complex cases.

They will undertake assessments for holistic, individual-focused care and provide relevant information regarding diagnoses, treatments, or contraception methods.

Once fully competent, they will issue prescription-only medication under Patient Group Directions (PGDs).

The role includes gaining competency to offer a full range of contraception and STI care, including microscopy for diagnosis support.

The post holder will access staff supervision, participate in appraisals, team meetings, and training sessions, and collaborate with wider sexual health teams.

They will use the service's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and support the clinic manager in implementing new practices or developments.
