The role is based in a school for autistic children aged 4-19, graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. You will work in small groups or individually, designing, planning, and delivering lessons to support pupils' learning, social, and emotional development.

Position Details:
  • Role: Aspiring SEN Teacher – Classroom Support Assistant
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Salary: £21,000 - £23,000 (based on 39 weeks)
  • Hours: 35 hours/week, Monday-Friday 9am-4.30pm (5.30pm Tuesdays for training)
  • Part-time options considered, but Tuesday attendance is required for training
  • Start: April 2025 or later depending on availability
Main Responsibilities:
  • Support pupils by following individualised curricula
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons focusing on life skills
  • Assist pupils during trips, applying classroom learning to practical situations
  • Provide behaviour support to reduce challenging behaviors
  • Support personal care needs, including hygiene and feeding
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, ensuring effective teaching
  • Assist with break-time duties and playground supervision
Application Requirements:
  • Experience working with children and disabilities (professional, personal, or voluntary)
  • Psychology degree is desirable but not essential
  • Minimum Grade C/4 GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent
  • Comfortable working with children exhibiting challenging behaviors
  • Willing to support personal and intimate care when needed
  • Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations
