Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a current trainee solicitor who is interested in completing their training contract or Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) with a law firm based in Leeds that specialises in pensions law.

The secondment is expected to last between 6 to 12 months. The exact duration would depend on your progress in the training contract/QWE.

Although the firm specialises in pensions law, your daily work would be variable, covering a mix of legal areas, including exposure to Employment, Corporate and M&A work. The practice area is large and interesting with different types of specialisms. There is a good mix of advisory, transactional and some contentious work.

Some duties and tasks may include:

  • Support the team on complex M&A transactions, conduct due diligence on pension liabilities, draft key documents and provide strategic pension guidance for deal structuring.
  • Prepare and review pension scheme documents to ensure regulatory compliance and mitigate risk for corporate clients.
  • Review, comment on, and negotiate terms in investment management, participation, custody, escrow, and loan agreements for diverse clients.
  • Manage client communications and collaborate with partners to address pension-related transaction queries, delivering tailored guidance on regulatory compliance, surplus returns, and late retirement rules.

Requirements

  • You must be a current trainee solicitor OR an experienced paralegal who has completed at least 6 months of QWE.
  • You should have an interest in pensions law and in completing your training contract/QWE by getting exposure to pensions law.

Who Should Apply?

We are looking for candidates with strong intellectual, analytical and problem-solving skills, good communication and organisational skills with the ability to demonstrate resilience, commercial awareness, teamwork, a passion for law and dedication to succeed.

Any mitigating circumstances will be considered during the selection process.
