Responsibilities

• Minimise downtime by addressing breakdowns and implementing fixes.
• Assist with cleaning schedules and daily checks.
• Carry out weekly Health & Safety audits and stock recording.

We are pleased to announce our vacancy for the position of Trainee Production Technician at our Whitley Bridge site. This is an excellent opportunity for career development and progression within Whitworth Bros Ltd.

Role Overview

We are looking for a motivated Trainee Production Technician to join our milling team at Whitley Bridge. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a long-term career within the milling industry, with comprehensive training and development provided.

You will receive hands‑on training across all aspects of our flour mill, Flour Heat Treatment plants and the wider milling process, developing an understanding of the journey from raw materials through to finished products.

Initially, you will work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. As your training progresses, you will be required to work as part of our rotating shift pattern, which includes days and afternoon shifts. Flexibility and a willingness to work shifts are therefore essential.

As part of your development, you will undertake a fully funded, in‑depth training programme over a minimum of four years, combining practical workplace learning with online study. This will include completion of the UK flour milling correspondence courses, alongside the practical skills and technical knowledge required to build a successful career in milling.

Key Responsibilities

• Testing and certifying flour to ensure it meets customer specifications.
• Site operations and covering, when necessary, once trained.
• Carrying out HACCP, CCP and food safety checks.
• Ensuring production requirements are met and customer orders fulfilled in all aspects to site output. Wheat intake to flour out.
• Maximising the efficiency of the FHT plants, mills by adjusting the equipment accordingly.
• Minimising downtime within the site operations by responding to breakdowns and providing solutions to prevent reoccurring problems.
• Perform cleaning duties in line with the cleaning schedules.
• Carrying out daily checks, magnet cleaning and weekly Health and Safety audits.
• Stock taking and recording when required.
