Job summary

Stagecoach Kendal is recruiting for an apprentice bus driver. You’ll earn while you learn, with fully paid training to gain your PCV licence and complete a Level 2 Bus Driver Apprenticeship.

Based at Kendal depot on Beezon Road, you’ll drive our local fleet, learn a structured programme, and gain an externally recognised qualification. No prior driving experience needed, just a positive attitude and a full UK driving licence.

• No prior driving experience required; a positive attitude and willingness to learn are essential.
• You must be 18+ with a full UK driving licence and be able to meet DVLA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Completing the training programme to gain your PCV licence as part of the Level 2 Bus Driver Apprenticeship.
• Driving our fleet safely and confidently to provide a great journey for customers.
• Delivering friendly, helpful service and a welcoming atmosphere for all travellers.
• Working flexible shifts, including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
• Maintaining professionalism and supporting a positive experience for each passenger.

Salary

Salary Once qualified £15.20 per hour (£608 per week) with typical annualised earnings of £31,600 based on 40 hours

Pay rate during training of £14.10 per hour (training will last 6 – 8 weeks) Annual earnings of £31,600 following completion of training based on 40 hours per week as a qualified Bus Driver Shift patterns of 5 days over 7

About the Role

Based at our Kendal depot, located on Beezon Road within the town.

No experience driving a bus? No problem! We’ll pay you to train whilst we invest significantly in your training. You’ll gain your PCV licence as part of our Level 2 Bus Driver Apprenticeship, which will equip you with everything you need to not only succeed but flourish on the road.

The apprenticeship gives you a structured training programme and an externally recognised qualification, with no impact on your role, pay or hours. All we ask for is a great attitude to learning, a genuine desire to make a positive difference to people’ s daily lives, a passion for exceptional customer experience and a full UK driving licence.

At our Kendal depot, we operate a fleet of 34 buses covering the area of The Lake District with a team of 75 Drivers. This isn’t just about driving a bus—it’s about making a difference every day. What do you need to apply?

• You need to be 18 years old and hold a driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points
• Right to work in the UK (You will need to have been in the UK for a minimum of 183 days as part of DVLA requirement) and have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands or the British overseas territories for the last 3 years OR meet alternative criteria due to funding criteria (can be discussed via application)
• A patient, safe and courteous approach
