Job summary

Tarmac is seeking an Apprentice Operative in Wales to learn on-the-job while contributing to production across Concrete, Aggregates, Asphalt or Building Products. You’ll operate equipment, participate in maintenance, and work to meet targets in a safety-focused environment.

You’ll gain hands-on experience, earn a recognised qualification (Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant Operator – Level 2 Apprenticeship), and travel to Macclesfield for block release with accommodation and travel

Qualifications

• GCSEs Maths and English (or equivalent) at pass grade.
• Ability to travel to college.
• Strong commitment to working safely and responsibly.

Responsibilities

• Operate production equipment such as cranes, forklifts, mobile and fixed plant systems.
• Carry out basic maintenance and inspections to keep equipment running smoothly.
• Support a safe working environment and uphold our high safety standards.

As an Apprentice Operative, you’ll be part of a team that works with purpose, pride, and precision. Whether you're based in Concrete, Aggregates, Asphalt, or Building Products, you’ll play a key role in producing high-quality materials and hitting our production targets — all while learning the ropes and building a career from the ground up.

What you’ll be doing...

Your day-to-day will be varied, practical, and full of learning opportunities. Activities may include:

Life on site!

You will work both inside and outside, sometimes in a dusty or confined environment. However, your health and safety are our number one priority and full protective clothing is provided. Your colleagues are also there to help and look out for you, as safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Qualification: Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant Operator – Level 2 Apprenticeship

You will need to travel to the National Skills and Safety Park in Macclesfield NG20 9JF. The course will be delivered in block release, so accommodation and travel expenses will be provided.

Essential

• GCSEs Maths and English (or equivalent) at pass grade. However, we can support you gain the qualifications you need as part of your apprenticeship so don't worry!
• Ability to travel to college
