We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurses / Level 1 to compliment our nurse sonographer service based within our busy and friendly gynaecology unit.

The Gynaecology unit comprises of inpatient and outpatient services relating to gynaecology, oncology, early pregnancy assessment including an abortion service, emergency admissions and fertility services.

The successful applicant will be based within the gynaecology unit and will work primarily within the early pregnancy assessment services and abortion service based within the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and where required may be asked to support the Jessop Wing Fertility service based in the Jessop Wing. A commitment to individualised patient care, evidence-based practice, teaching and health promotion is essential.

On successful completion of the PgCert Medical Ultrasound Course, the qualified trainee will be uplifted to a Band 6 Nurse Sonography post.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake and support in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised patient care.
  • Work in collaboration with colleagues, members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide standard of patient care.
  • Exercise judgement in assessing wide ranging patient problems and promote options for optimum patient care.
  • To maintain effective communication with all patients, carers, and members of the Healthcare team.
  • To act sensitively, confidentially and with empathy in demonstrating understanding of wide- ranging physical and emotional needs.
  • Work unsupervised, within Trust Guidelines, Policies and Procedures and the NMC codes of conduct, seeking advice on non-routine matters from line managers or Duty Matron.
  • To ensure accurate, contemporaneous, and timely care records, both written and electronic.
  • Support the Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse in the maintenance of the framework of Healthcare governance and understand responsibilities to patients for assessing risk, health and safety legislation including the use and decontamination of clinical equipment, information governance and quality assurance measures.
  • At all times to protect, improve and preserve patients’ health by adherence to infection control policies and practice.

There is a tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis until the 1st September 2026 due to this being a training programme. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.

Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Please also note this vacancy is a training post so all applicants will start at Band 5 and upon completion of necessary skills and/ or training will progress to Band 6.
